Myrtus communis

Evergreen shrubs with aromatic leaves and fruits, which can be used in cooking, lend themselves to cultivation in various forms, for borders, hedges, potted green plants.
Good resistance to brackish winds, low temperatures and dry soils. Leaves and berries have various uses in cooking and for making homemade liqueurs. The microphylla variety also called pumila has minute leaves and very thin, compact branching; the tarentine variety has straight, stiffer branching and smaller leaves than the communis variety but both have shrubby habit.
